Lakeshirts to Acquire Colorado Apparel Business
Detroit Lakes-based apparel company Lakeshirts has inked a deal to buy Colorado-based apparel and accessory company Aksels.
The Colorado brand will continue to operate as a standalone brand under Lakeshirts, according to a news release issued last week.
The companies didn’t disclose financial details about the transaction.
Aksels will join brands Blue 84, Zephyr, TGT, Yesterdays, Lakegirl, and Elite Fan Shop that also operate as standalone brands under Lakeshirts.
Both resort apparel brands, Lakeshirts and Aksels sell clothing and accessories unique to their localities. “We’ve been fans of Aksels for a long time,” said Mark Fritz, Co-CEO of Lakeshirts in the release.“We’re really confident that as we’re able to introduce the Aksels line to more customers, those customers are going to feel the same way.”
Founded in 2007, Aksels began as basement operation selling t-shirts. The company eventually expanded to hats and novelty socks.
“I could not have imagined a better company for us to team up with to help elevate the Aksels brand to the next level and beyond,” added Aksels founder and CEO Dane Burneson in the release.
Lakeshirts started in Detriot Lakes in 1984 as a resort and college garment manufacturer. Since then, it has added a second location in Little Falls, Minnesota, along with others in California, Colorado, and Maine.
Last year, the apparel company acquired California-based resort apparel company Coastal Classics, which was integrated into the Yesterdays division, another existing brand under the Lakeshirts name. Lakeshirts was also recognized in TCB’s Manufacturing Excellence Awards in 2020.
