Rev. Stephen Richards, retired senior pastor of Messiah United Methodist Church, started a two-year term on July 1 as vice chair of the Hamline University Board of Trustees. He served two four-year terms from 2014–2022 and rejoined the board in 2023.

A graduate of St. Olaf College, he earned a master of theology degree from Southern Methodist University. He served at churches in Minnesota and Tennessee and has been a lifelong advocate for children and a leader in children’s Christian education.
