Software Co. Perforce Expands Portfolio with $200M Acquisition
Perforce, a Minneapolis-based software solutions provider that counts hardware maker Nvidia, game company Ubisoft and animation studio Pixar among its clients, is boosting its portfolio with the acquisition of Perfecto Mobile.
The $200 million deal, set to close this year, would unite two companies with a strong focus on DevOps — a combination of software development (Dev) with informational technology operations (Ops).
Given the automated mobile and web application specialty of California-based Perfecto Mobile, the deal adds capabilities for Perforce clients on enterprise DevOps teams to achieve continuous testing at scale, web mobile and Internet of Things applications.
With Santa Monica, California-based Perfecto Mobile’s specialty being in automated mobile and web applications, Perforce hopes to achieve continuous testing at scale across all of its web, mobile and Internet of Things applications, Perforce said in a release. In plain speak, continuous testing is a type of automated testing in which software can be accessed for problems throughout the software’s lifecycle, allowing for development to work alongside operations and make fixes faster.
“Enterprises continue to need more automation to both scale and accelerate their application delivery,” said Perforce CEO Mark Ties in a statement. “Perfecto adds a critical component to our DevOps capabilities allowing Perforce to deliver more value for large enterprise customers that value scalability and security.”
The acquisition of Perfecto Mobile is Perforce’s fifth in two years. The buying spree has been part of a recent effort to seek out new elements for its software portfolio that meet changing market needs.
Eran Yaniv, Perfecto Mobile co-founder and CEO, said in prepared remarks that these changes include accelerated adoption of DevOps and related activities. He noted the company’s Continuous Quality Lab platform helps prevent problems that arise in application delivery – i.e. it removes bottleneck and provides rapid validation and delivery.
“Perfecto is the mobile and web testing software platform of choice for enterprise clients,” said Yaniv. “We are thrilled to join the Perforce team and are confident that this partnership provides us increased resources to capitalize on the continuous testing market opportunity.”
At the time of the deal, Perfecto Mobile had a customer base of more than 3,000 businesses.
