South Dakota’s Furniture Mart USA announced last week it has finalized its previously reported acquisition of Becker Furniture stores in the Twin Cities and Furniture Superstore in Rochester.

By the end of 2025, the Sioux Falls-based company expects to have a total of 70 stores across four states, and Minnesota will be the home of nearly half of them—34, to be exact.

In addition to its existing 17 Ashley Furniture and nine Furniture Mart stores in Minnesota, Furniture Mart has now bought two locally owned companies, which brings in eight new stores to Furniture Mart USA’s roster. Those include seven Becker Furniture stores and the Furniture Superstore in Rochester, all of them renamed Furniture Mart.

Ashley Furniture Industries is a manufacturer that has its own retail stores but also licenses to independent companies like Furniture Mart USA.

Instead of four separate brands, the move will group the stores into Ashleys and Furniture Marts, 17 of each. This completes an acquisition process that started in September 2024 and was announced back in February.

“Minnesota is our number one market,” Cory Price, CEO of Furniture Mart USA, told Twin Cities Business. “These [acquisitions] will just allow us to serve our customers better.”

Furniture Mart also took over Becker’s 122,000-square-foot warehouse in Becker, Minnesota, allowing Furniture Mart to stock more furniture in state.

Price says these acquisitions not only help with being in stock—and, as a result, getting products to customers more quickly—but also offer customers a wider variety of major brands, including La-Z-Boy, Flexsteel, England, Tempurpedic, Beautyrest, and Modo.

While Furniture Mart’s leadership has taken over operations, they have retained most of the employees from Becker and Furniture Superstore, according to Price.

“Initially, when we do the acquisition, we try to keep as much in place as we can,” Price says.

Mark Parsons, Furniture Mart’s vice president of human resources, told Twin Cities Business that the total number of Minnesota employees tallies up to 504, including the 110 and 14 employees retained from Becker and Furniture Superstore, respectively.

Furniture Mart USA is working toward interior updates to improve customer walkthrough experience and bring the new stores up to date with Furniture Mart’s layout, which is consistent across the board.

“We are working on having a more consistent and thought-out process of how our furniture is set—our offices, the colors on the walls. We are working on that transition right now and getting each store set up that kind of aligns with the rest of our Furniture Mart stores,” Price says. “We believe both Furniture Superstore and Becker have great customers, and we want to continue to give them great service with more selection and faster delivery.”

Furniture Mart USA did not disclose the cost of the acquisitions.
