2012 Outstanding Directors Awards
This is the 17th year in which Twin Cities Business has honored some of the most accomplished, insightful, and effective members of local business boards. They operate as the eyes and ears for their companies’ customers, shareholders, employees, and other stakeholders. In describing the director’s modus operandi, many of this year’s honorees use the phrase “nose in, fingers out.” A director’s view is high-level, and his or her guidance operates at that same height. A director is curious about everything the company does, but he or she doesn’t seek to run it. As 2012 honoree Joel Johnson puts it, “My responsibility is oversight, not management.”
In putting together this year’s crop of nominees, Twin Cities Business once again worked with an accomplished, insightful, and effective panel of judges: David Fisher, Minnesota Regional Chapter president of the National Association of Corporate Directors; Linda Hall Keller, entrepreneur in residence, Carlson School of Management; Steve Zenz, retired partner of audit for Minnesota and Iowa, KPMG; and Mark Sheffert, chairman and CEO, Manchester Companies, Inc. Joining them was Dale Kurschner, editor in chief of Twin Cities Business.
