Target, Hy-Vee Recall Nuts For Potential Salmonella Contamination
Target and Hy-Vee stores will pull their private label macadamia nuts off shelves due to potential for Salmonella contamination.
The nuts, produced by Omaha-based Marathon Ventures Inc., tested positive for the bacteria during routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
It affects Hy-Vee’s private label macadamia nuts and Target’s Market Pantry line sold between July 2, 2015 and February 3, 2016.
No illnesses have reported and the recall is precautionary at this time. Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, blood in stool, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It can be fatal in young children, those with compromised immune systems and the elderly.
The Star Tribune reported earlier this week that 2015 was a record year for Salmonella infections in Minnesota. A significant number of those cases came from an outbreak at Chipotle restaurants.
More information about the recall can be found here.
