Target Extends Pay Increase, Benefits Through July
Target on Monday told frontline workers that they’ll continue to see a $2 an hour pay increase through July 4.
The pay increase was initially announced on March 4; it’s now being extended two months longer than initially intended.
“As states start to reopen and businesses restart, we can’t lose sight of the fact that it’s going to take time to work through the pandemic,” said CEO Brian Cornell in a memo to employees.
The retailer also will continue to provide a 30-day paid leave for those who have an underlying medical condition, are 65 and older, or pregnant. In addition, Target will continue providing a backup care benefit, which provides free access to child care or care for a family member. Applications for leave are open through the end of June.
“Q1 was unlike any I’ve seen – intense, volatile and stressful for our guests and the country,” Cornell said in the memo.
Including this extension, Target says it’s put hundreds of millions of dollars in extended benefits and safety measures for employees. The retailer is scheduled to present its first quarter earnings on Wednesday.
