Target Announces Cyber Monday Deals As Holiday Shopping Kicks Off
Target announced today what it is calling its “biggest, boldest plans yet” for Cyber Monday and the week following it.
The Minneapolis-based retailer said it will cut prices on Target.com by 15 percent on Monday with extra deals sprinkled throughout the week that have stackable discounts.
The move comes as Target tries to ratchet up digital sales, which disappointed the company and investors in an otherwise positive quarterly reporter. The company saw digital increase by 20 percent, only half of what they were hoping to accomplish.
Cyber Monday—the Monday following the Thanksgiving weekend—is a chance for online retailers to get into the Black Friday bonanza. Many brick and mortar stores now offer deals as well, and several have turned the sales day into a “Cyber Week.”
While Cyber Monday sales have waned—it’s not Target’s biggest online sales day—it remains important and sales continue to grow, according to Target.com senior vice president Jason Goldberger.
Despite that, the company is promising to keep pushing the event.
“Why?” Goldberger posed in a company blog post. “Because shopping is fun. It’s exciting. It’s sport. Consumers want to feel the energy, and be part of the event. And both Black Friday and Cyber Monday send a clear message: These are great days to shop and find amazing deals.”
