Minnesotans signed up for health insurance on MNsure in record numbers for the 2017 period.
 
The state’s health insurance marketplace reported that 117,654 enrolled in private coverage. About 64 percent received a subsidy from the federal government—with the average being $621 per month.
 
The organization also said that 147,880 people signed up for one of the state’s two public programs, MinnesotaCare and Medical Assistance.
 
Sky-high premiums didn’t seem to deter enrollment, especially after the state legislature voted to provide a 25 percent premium credit for Minnesotans that didn’t qualify for federal subsidies. After it passed, MNsure rolled out a special enrollment period for those facing sticker shock.
 
“Minnesota has the highest rate of health coverage in state history,” MNsure CEO Allison O’Toole said in a statement. “When more Minnesotans are covered, our state is healthier and our economy is stronger.”
