General Mills Teams with Zimmern for “Munchies” Awards

General Mills is inviting the public to vote on the best of the best across 20 food-related categories.

General Mills, Inc., has partnered with food celebrity Andrew Zimmern for an awards program meant to recognize the nation’s best of the best in a variety of food-related categories—including best chef, food truck, reality show, magazine, and more.

Zimmern, host of the Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods, worked with a panel of food industry leaders to create a list of nominees—and now Golden Valley-based General Mills is calling on the public to help select winners. (Among the 26 panelists involved in the nomination process were Twin Cities Business Executive Editor Adam Platt and Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl of TCB’s sister publication Mpls.St.Paul.)

Local companies in the running include St. Paul-based Summit Brewing Company, which is nominated for “best craft brewery,” Minneapolis-based Salty Tart, which is up for “best bakery,” and AZ Canteen, Zimmern’s food truck that debuted at last year’s Minnesota State Fair and whose cuisine was recently added to the Target Field menu.

Voting for the contest, which is dubbed “Munchies: People’s Choice Food Awards,” is open through April 30. Click here to vote.

“We are excited to highlight the culinary tastemakers who are shaping America’s food culture,” General Mills Food Content Marketer Heather Reid said in a statement. “The Munchies gives food lovers a voice in celebrating the restaurants, chefs, and media that deliver the most inspiring food experiences. Plus, we’ll be making a donation to Feeding America on behalf of all of the voters and panelists, so everyone who participates is also supporting a great cause.”
