Bank of America Awards $400K to Two Minneapolis Nonprofits
Minneapolis nonprofits Juxtaposition Arts and Project for Pride in Living have each received $200,000 from Bank of America’s philanthropic Neighborhood Builders program.
Neighborhood Builders provides unrestricted funds to support nonprofits. The program also includes training for nonprofit leaders. The two Minneapolis nonprofits were chosen for their work in “driving social change in the areas of workforce development and education and affordable housing,” according to a Bank of America press release.
This is the seventh year that Bank of America has provided a Neighborhood Builder grant in the Twin Cities, and it’s the first year that it has expanded the program from giving one grant in the Twin Cities market to giving two grants.
“We are honored to be able to support them each with the Neighborhood Builder grant and know that they will leverage both the grant and leadership training to continue their transformative work in the Twin Cities,” said Katie Simpson, Bank of America’s market president for Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Founded in 1995, Juxtaposition Arts works to help the youth of North Minneapolis enter the workforce as innovators and problem solvers. The nonprofit combines art and design education, youth empowerment, and a social-enterprise business model.
“Through this program, we’ll be in the company of local and national peers who are doing challenging and rich work that makes material and economic impact in their neighborhoods,” said DeAnna Cummings, CEO of Juxtaposition Arts, in the release.
Project for Pride in Living, meanwhile, strives to help lower income families reach self-reliance through affordable housing and employment programs. Last year, the organization’s work helped more than 13,000 people move into affordable housing, according to Bank of America.
“The growing housing shortage and an increasingly tight workforce have reinforced [our organization’s] conviction that our focus on housing and employment is right for our community and right for these times,” said Paul Williams, PPL President & CEO.
Bank of America has been giving the Neighborhood Builder grants to the Twin Cities market each year since 2013. Past recipients include: Genesys Works, Northside Achievement Zone, College Possible, Second Harvest Heartland, EMERGE, and City of Lakes Community Land Trust.
Starting in 2019, Bank of America will now award two Neighborhood Builder grants every year to the Twin Cities market.
Nationally, Bank of America has invested $240 million in 49 communities through Neighborhood Builders over the past 15 years, according to the company. It’s partnered with more than 1,000 nonprofits and helped more than 2,000 nonprofit leaders strengthen their leadership skills.
