Herself Health Opens Crystal Clinic
Nine months after launching its first clinic in the nation in St. Paul, Herself Health is expanding its reach in the Twin Cities.
The health care startup, which exclusively serves women 65 and older, opened its second clinic in Crystal on Oct 5. Company leaders decided to open another clinic to meet strong demand for services, and there are plans to open even more in the near future. Herself Health’s first clinic in St. Paul’s Highland Park neighborhood has already served more than 1,000 patients since it launched in January, spokeswoman Julie Halpin said in an email. Some patients visiting the clinic reported traveling over an hour to be seen.
Selecting Crystal for the company’s second location was a strategic move to accommodate as many of its current and prospective clientele as possible. The clinic will be within 12 minutes of over 25,000 women over 65 by car, according to a news release issued late last week. The new location is in close proximity to Twin Cities suburbs like Robbinsdale, New Hope, and Golden Valley, and it’s expected to add 25 new jobs and serve over 4,000 patients. Herself Health already has plans to open its third location in South Minneapolis later this year, with more on the horizon.
“Herself Health is opening additional clinics in the Twin Cities in 2024,” Halpin said. “We are adding a new geography next year as well.”
Herself Health began with a mission to provide primary care designed specifically for women over 65 – a group that has been consistently neglected in the healthcare system, according to Herself Health CEO Kristen Helton.
“Women 65+ face unique health and social challenges as they age, and they deserve a primary care experience designed specifically for them,” said Helton, who previously founded Amazon Care, a now-shuttered telehealth service piloted by the e-commerce giant a few years ago. Herself Health differentiates itself by providing a holistic approach to treatment and care. Practitioners at the company examine a host of factors, including mobility, mental health, social and behavioral health, and life experiences.
Community building is another priority for Herself Health. Halpin said the company has seen over 3,000 RSVPs to its community events to date, which have included everything from open houses and movie showings to special speakers on aging and retirement planning.
“This is more than just an expansion,” Helton said. “It’s a commitment to help even more women in the Twin Cities area find joy, purpose, and better quality of life through a wholly new approach to primary care.”
In July, Herself Health landed $26 million in a Series A funding. That’s in addition to $7 million raised in seed funding.
