4 Mpls. Restaurant Bars Make Nat’l “Most Popular” List
Online reservation website Urbanspoon recently released its “Most Popular Restaurant Bars” list—and four Minneapolis establishments made the cut.
The local bars on the list, which features 200 U.S. locations, are 112 Eatery, Bar La Grassa, George and the Dragon, and Tilia.
112 Eatery and Bar La Grassa, both of which have garnered many positive reviews, are located in downtown Minneapolis. Their highly acclaimed executive chef and owner, Isaac Becker, was recognized by the James Beard Foundation as “Best Chef in the Midwest” in 2011 and is a semifinalist for that same award this year.
Meanwhile, George and the Dragon, located in southwest Minneapolis, is modeled after an English pub or public house.
And Tilia, situated in Linden Hills, also boasts a well-known chef—Steven Brown, another 2013 semifinalist for “Best Chef in the Midwest.”
The list spans 101 cities across 33 states. The bars selected are those that Urbanspoon said received “the most coverage and reviews from professional food critics, bloggers, the Urbanspoon community, and diners.”
According to Urbanspoon, beer proved to be a popular and defining feature for quite a few of the selected bars. Restaurants and breweries that feature 10 or more beers on tap or those that provide European or domestic specialty beers received high marks among Urbanspoon users.
On the liquor side, restaurants offering specialty cocktails, house-infused spirits, and simplified takes on classic libations like martinis were also well represented on the list.
