At its annual awards gala Wednesday night, the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) named the 12 winners of the 2019 Tekne Awards. Now in its 20th year, the program honors science and technology-based companies throughout the state.

“This year’s recipients have brought forth some of the most innovative industry advancements we’ve seen, and we are proud to honor their contributions to the technology industry of the future,” said Jeff Tollefson, president and CEO of MHTA.

Chosen from a pool of 36 finalists announced in September, the winners include both startups and large corporations. Awards were given across 12 industry categories:

Agtech: Calyxt, a Roseville-based agriculture gene-editing company that specializes in making food healthier.

Cloud Computing: Flywheel, a Minneapolis-based biomedical imaging research platform that automates scientific workflow to improve the efficiency of research processes.

Cognitive Computing: C.H. Robinson, a Fortune 500 logistics and supply chain management company based in Eden Prairie.

Community Impact: PCs for People, a St.-Paul based organization working to provide computers, affordable internet, and digital literacy to low-income individuals.

Cybersecurity: Code42, a data security software company based in Minneapolis.

Edtech: Code Championship, an organization that runs coding bootcamps and competitions throughout the state to help teach young people how to code.

Fintech: Total Expert, a Minneapolis-based software company that specializes in automated marketing and engagement tools for financial institutions. Last month, the company pulled off the largest fundraising round at a Minnesota company this year.

Industry 4.0: Tower Solutions, a Mendota Heights-based company that provides tower solutions for communications, surveillance, and lighting.

Internet of Things: Digi International, a Hopkins-based hardware and software service and solutions provider. Earlier this month, the company completed its largest ever acquisition.

Medtech: Abilitech Medical, a St. Paul-based medical device company focused on restoring mobility to those with upper-limb neuromuscular disorders.

Startup: Anatomi Corp, a neurological disease-focused stem-cell engineering firm based in Minneapolis.

Workforce Development: Creating IT Futures, an Edina-based nonprofit aimed at training unemployed people for technology jobs.
