Valleyfair Hiring to Fill 1,600-Plus Positions

The Shakopee amusement park-which is open from May through October-hires about the same number of people on a seasonal basis every year.

Valleyfair, an amusement park in Shakopee, announced Saturday that it will hire more than 1,600 people to work at the park during its 2012 season.

Valleyfair said the seasonal positions-for which it is now accepting applications-are in various areas of park operation, including admissions, rides, games, merchandise, food and beverage, guest services, water safety, and security.

Valleyfair spokesman Todd Larkin told Twin Cities Business that the park hires about the same number of people every year.

Most of the jobs last for the entire length of Valleyfair's season, which will start this year on May 12 and end on October 28.

Operating on 90 acres of land, Valleyfair bills itself as the largest amusement park in the Upper Midwest. In addition to rides, it features a water park, an IMAX movie theater, and live entertainment throughout the park.

Valleyfair is owned and operated by Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, which owns and operates 11 amusement parks and six water parks, in addition to resorts and hotels.
