UHG Continues to Hire, Will Add 150 Jobs in NY

After announcing plans to add more than 2,500 jobs in Colorado, Texas, and California, UnitedHealth Group is now boosting its presence in New York.

UnitedHealthcare, a subsidiary of Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group, Inc. (UHG), announced Tuesday that it plans to hire 150 employees for its customer support center in Tonawanda, New York by the end of the year—thus continuing the parent company’s recent hiring streak.
The Tonawanda office opened in 2005 and supports UnitedHealthcare’s employer-sponsored and individual health plan customers. The company said that the new positions will be in customer service, claims processing, and case management.
UHG has been on a hiring spree lately. In recent months, the company outlined plans to hire 550 employees for a call center in Centennial, Colorado; 1,500 at four locations in Texas; 115 for a call center in Chico, California; and 600 across California at the company’s OptumRx business unit.
The New York jobs are on top of nearly 125 that the health care giant added at the Tonawanda facility in 2011. They also boost UnitedHealth Group’s already large presence within New York, where it has more than 3.8 million customers and its insurance covers health care services at more than 230 hospitals. The company expects its employee count in the state to reach more than 4,000 by the end of the year.
UHG is Minnesota’s largest public company based on revenue, which totaled $101.9 billion in 2011. The company employed 99,000 as of the end of last year.
