Mayo Clinic and UnitedHealth Group joined five other health industry leaders on a new list of the top 25 companies that Millennials want to work for.

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) compiled the list after surveying more than 12,000 of its 1 million members, and the results were also published by Forbes.

Rochester-based Mayo Clinic, the nonprofit hospital and research giant, placed 12th on this year’s list—down one spot from 2013’s ranking. The hospital consistently ranks among the best in the nation.

UnitedHealth Group, based in Minnetonka, placed 19th. The Fortune 500 healthcare company also finished 19th on last year’s list. UnitedHealth Group is the parent company of UnitedHealthcare and bills itself as the largest single heath-carrier in the United States, serving approximately 70 million people.

Participants in the survey were asked to rank their top three choices from a list of 220 businesses picked from Fortune magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For, DiversityInc.’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity, additional companies from Fortune’s Global 400, and write-in choices from previous years. NSHSS’ membership is international, although 96 percent are from the United States. They range in age from 15 to 27 and of the survey respondents, 73 percent were female.

Several other Minnesota-based companies appeared lower on the list. Minneapolis-based retailer Target Corporation placed 62nd, the same spot it held in 2013. Golden Valley-based General Mills, meanwhile, ranked 92nd—up from 163rd last year. View the complete list and survey metrics here.
