St. Louis Park Punch Bowl Social to Reopen
Minnesota’s only Punch Bowl Social, located in The Shops at West End in St. Louis Park, will reopen on Wednesday, May 5.
The restaurant temporarily closed in March 2020, citing “the unexpected and unforeseen business circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disaster” in a filing with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
In an email at the time, former chief administrative officer Rob LeBoeuf said the closure was temporary, although the layoffs were permanent.
The St. Louis Park Punch Bowl Social did reopen from August 2020 through December 2020, but has remained closed since.
“With the nation emerging from the pandemic we feel there is no time like the present,” the company said in a statement. “We are currently in the process of aggressively reopening all our locations across the country.”
The pandemic has been brutal for the restaurant industry, in Minnesota and across the country. In 2020, at least 94 restaurants shut down in the Twin Cities, according to the Star Tribune. Nationwide, at least 110,000 restaurants have closed indefinitely or permanently, Bloomberg reported in December 2020.
The federal government’s latest stimulus package, known as the American Rescue Plan, includes $28.6 billion in grants for the restaurant industry. The “Restaurant Revitalization Fund” will provide grants of up to $5 million for individual restaurants and up to $10 million for restaurant groups. Those funds could help many more restaurants spring back to life.
In St. Louis Park, Punch Bowl Social’s 25,000-square-foot space offers food, cocktails, and activities like bowling, darts, bocce ball, and ping pong.
The May 5 reopening will bring back all of Punch Bowl Social’s snacks and entertainment, along with a new seasonal cocktails and menu items. Happy Hours will also return.
Additionally, Punch Bowl Social will now offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Denver-based Punch Bowl Social Inc. was founded in 2012. According to its website, just four locations are currently open across the U.S. and 11 locations are reopening soon.
