Snap Fitness Plans 200 Clubs For Spain

The rapidly expanding fitness franchise wants to tap into Spain’s movement toward smaller health clubs.

The Snap Fitness banner will hang over as many as 200 clubs in Spain following a master franchise agreement laid out today by the company.

The Chanhassen-based chain of fitness franchises said the aggressive goal comes as the European country transitions to smaller clubs.

“The convenient, 24/7 small health club concept is emerging in Spain, and we want to capitalize on this opportunity to be the market leader,” Albert Marco, who was named CEO of Snap Fitness Spain, said in a statement.

Founded in 2003, the privately held company now has more than 2,000 clubs open or in development in 18 countries.

Snap Fitness’ parent company, Lift Brands, has been rapidly expanding in recent years, opening hundreds of clubs in the United Kingdom and India. In 2013, the company acquired fitness chain Steele Fitness in order to offer a higher-end personal training experience.

Last year, Lift Brands began the rollout of YogaFit Studios, a 24-hour yoga franchise. Executives hope to open 1,000 studios in the next five years.
