Schwan’s Co. Taps PepsiCo Exec to Serve as its First Chief Marketing Officer
Schwan’s Co., a food business headquartered in Marshall and Bloomington, on Monday announced Roberto Rios as its first chief marketing officer.
Since 2005, Rios has held marketing and leadership roles with PepsiCo. Most recently, he served as global chief marketing officer for beverages at PepsiCo’s world headquarters. He’s also held marketing and leadership positions with various PepsiCo divisions and subsidiaries, including units in Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico.
Schwan’s CEO Dimitrios Smyrnios said Rios will play a key role in “accelerating our company’s digital transformation, building on the strength of our brands, catching trends, and meeting evolving consumer preferences and customer needs.”
In 2018, Schwan’s agreed to sell a majority stake of its retail, grocery, and food service businesses to CJ CheilJedang, one of the largest food companies in South Korea.
The sale also included other parts of Schwan’s businesses, including manufacturing, logistics operations, and professional and administrative services.
As part of the deal, Schwan’s kept its senior management team and two headquarters locations. The Schwan family also retained its minority ownership.
The Schwan family still owns the company’s home-delivery business, which is how the family business originally got its start in 1952.
