Red Stamp Makes Entrepreneur Mag’s “100 Brilliant Cos.” List

The company, whose app allows users to send digital cards and other customized communications, has recently expanded its business to include corporate customers.

Minneapolis-based Red Stamp was recently ranked among Entrepreneur magazine’s “100 brilliant companies.”

Red Stamp, which was founded eight years ago, initially focused on stationery but about a year-and-a-half ago shifted its model to focus on mobile technology. The company’s app allows users to design templates to personalize digital communications and send customized photo cards, notes, and invitations via e-mail, text, Twitter, Facebook, or traditional mail. Its app contains free features as well as design collections that are sold for a fee.

To date, the company’s services have been tapped by 1.3 million users.

Entrepreneur said that this year’s “brilliant companies” list focuses on “the ways in which the digital realm affects lifestyles.” The magazine didn’t elaborate on its selection of Red Stamp, which appeared in the category of “love/connecting.” But the publication wrote that the featured companies “have turned brilliant ideas into business solutions.”

Earlier this year, Red Stamp debuted a custom collection that caters to small businesses and entrepreneurs, allowing them to create and send branded letterhead, business cards, notes, invitations, and announcements from mobile and desktop devices. Red Stamp charges $29.99 to design and host a business’ private collection and an additional $4.99 monthly fee for unlimited digital sharing.

That portion of Red Stamp’s business is “gaining a lot of momentum,” Director of Partnerships Lindsay DiLorenzo told Twin Cities Business on Wednesday. She declined to disclose the company’s annual revenue.

Red Stamp has also collaborated with companies on unique projects; for example, Starbucks approached Red Stamp when it was looking for an innovative way to recognize its baristas and also increase interaction with consumers. Red Stamp created a collection of designs for the company, which debuted in February; users who have the app open when they enter a Starbucks are notified on their mobile device that they can send a custom message to their barista.

Red Stamp also partnered with Stella & Dot, a direct-sale retailer of female accessories through in-home events and trunk shows. Red Stamp developed a collection of invitations and other products to be used by the company’s salespeople. And it partnered with the local Animal Humane Society on a $2.99 collection that allows users to share photos of their pets. The proceeds benefit the Animal Humane Society.

The company is “actively signing on new partners every week,” according to DiLorenzo.
