N.D.-Based Engineering Firm Ulteig Expands in MN, Hiring

The company, which has hired 22 people in the metro area this year and anticipates additional hires in the near term, recently relocated to a larger office space.

Fargo, North Dakota-based engineering firm Ulteig is growing its presence in the Twin Cities.
The company outgrew its 30,000-square-foot office in Fridley and last week relocated to a larger office—a 54,000-square-foot space at the Arden Hills Corporate Center.
Ulteig spokeswoman Danielle Teigen told Twin Cities Business on Monday that the company has hired 22 people at the local office since January—mostly engineers and technicians who work within the company’s energy division. The firm, which has 104 employees at its Arden Hills office, is currently looking to hire 10 more engineers at the location and anticipates an unspecified number of “additional hires in the next year,” Teigen said. Ulteig has a second Minnesota office in Detroit Lakes, where it employs 19.
Ulteig’s specialties include energy, civil engineering, and land surveying projects. In recent years, the company has been growing its energy division and has taken on several renewable power generation and transmission projects, Teigen said. The company has also been involved in several design projects for roads, highways, and airports.
“We have developed a reputation in the energy industry for providing excellent service,” Teigen said. “Our growth as a company results from receiving the ultimate compliment from our clients who ask us to provide other types of work.”
Ulteig has eight offices across the country, including the two in Minnesota. The 332-employee firm reported $48 million in revenue in 2011, up 2.2 percent from its 2010 revenue of $47 million. It is among Minnesota’s 25-largest engineering firms based on billings from Minnesota offices, which totaled $17.8 million in 2011.
