MPR Parent American Public Media Names New CFO
The St. Paul-based American Public Media Group (APMG) said Monday that it has named Morris Goodwin its new senior vice president and chief financial officer.
Goodwin’s first official day in the role was March 5, APMG spokeswoman Jen Keavy told Twin Cities Business.
Goodwin will be responsible for managing and overseeing the financial operations for all the entities that comprise APMG, a large nonprofit that operates 50 public radio stations in the Upper Midwest, California, and Florida. It is the parent organization of Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media, which produces and/or distributes programs such as A Prairie Home Companion and BBC World Service.
Goodwin replaces interim CFO Douglas Roderick, who will continue in his role as APMG’s controller. Roderick had stepped into the temporary role when Mark Alfuth retired this past summer after holding the position since 2001.
Goodwin brings more than 30 years of financial experience to his newest appointment. Since 2008, he served as the vice president of finance and administration and CFO for the St. Paul-based Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, a nonprofit social services organization. He has also held executive and financial leadership positions at Chase Manhattan Bank, the City and County of San Francisco, and Morgan Stanley, among others.
He is also a longtime member and former trustee of Minnesota Public Radio. And Goodwin is chairman of the Search Institute, a nonprofit research group focused on children and education. He also serves on the boards of several other local organizations including the African American Leadership Forum.

APMG content reaches 18 million listeners every week, the organization said. It bills itself as the largest station-based public radio organization in the United States. A network of more than 210,000 contributors supports its stations and programs.
For its most recent fiscal year, those supporters raised $33.2 million, or about 22 percent of APMG’s total revenue of $148.2 million, according to an independent audit by Los Angeles-based McGladrey LLP. Total revenue was up 33 percent from 2012. Contributions for Minnesota Public Radio made up the bulk of individual gifts and membership with $20.1 million donated.
