Mayo, Allianz Make Fortune’s “Best Cos. to Work For” List
The Mayo Clinic and Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America are among the country’s “100 best companies to work for,” according to Fortune magazine.
Fortune officially released its annual list on Thursday.
The magazine compiles its list based on employee surveys, which include questions about job satisfaction, pay and benefit programs, and hiring practices. This year, 277,000 employees at 259 companies participated in the survey, the magazine said.
Rochester-based Mayo and Golden Valley-based Allianz both made the list last year as well. This year, Mayo ranked 41st on the list—a significant jump from a 71st-place ranking last year. Meanwhile, Allianz, which ranked 51st last year, dropped to 59th place this year.
Golden Valley-based General Mills, which also made last year’s list, didn’t make an appearance this year; the company told the Star Tribune that it didn’t participate in the survey.
According to Fortune, one of the benefits of working at Mayo is that employees can get massages at work. The health care provider also offers its employees “stress-free zones” at its Arizona facility to help them cope with work anxieties. Mayo has about 43,820 employees in the United States with 730 job openings as of January 2, according to Fortune.
Meanwhile, employees at Allianz can share stories about personal connections to their jobs with co-workers, and popular stories are given a chance to win prizes of up to $500, Fortune found.
Allianz President and CEO Walter White told the Star Tribune that employees also enjoy access to an onsite gym and child care facility, and the company helps them with career development and engagement in the community. The company has about 1,760 U.S. employees, according to Fortune.
Fortune partners with consulting firm Great Place to Work Institute in conducting its surveys. Only companies that are at least five years old and have more than 1,000 employees in the U.S. are surveyed for the list.
