WeWork’s Minneapolis Expansion Continues with Third Co-Working Space

The 60,000-square-foot space will open this July in The Nordic, an under-construction building in the North Loop.

The rollout of co-working venture WeWork across Minneapolis doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon. After opening locations in Capella Tower in downtown Minneapolis and another in Uptown, the New York City-based company on Thursday announced its plans for a third venue in the city’s bustling North Loop neighborhood.

The 60,000 square-foot-space will encompass floors five through seven of The Nordic, an under-construction United Properties building at 729 Washington Ave North.

The new digs will bring WeWork’s local co-working empire to more than 200,000 square feet of office space.

“Since opening our first location in 2017, Minneapolis has welcomed WeWork with open arms,” says Megan Dodds, WeWork’s Midwest general manager. “We’ve formed meaningful partnerships, hosted impactful events and provided our members with a global platform to grow their businesses. We… look forward to continued growth in the Twin Cities.”

WeWork expects to open its North Loop hub on July 1. Membership pricing for a private office, shared workspace or other office configurations are generally determined by the location and demand. WeWork hasn’t yet determined what its pricing structure will be at The Nordic.

WeWork’s North Loop office neighbors will include digital marketing and analytics firm Ovative Group, which signed a lease in 2016, as well as residential and retail tenants. The building will also feature an outdoor plaza for events. WeWork members at The Nordic will be able to take advantage of 24/7 building access, micro-roasted coffee, and a communal outdoor terrace on the sixth floor.

WeWork is skilled at creating special environments, and their unique brand of coworking fits the environment we set out to create at The Nordic,” says Gordy Stofer, vice president of development for United Properties. “We are confident WeWork’s unique community-building amenities… and access to their global network, will appeal to North Loop residents and be a great addition to The Nordic.”

The company’s expansion into the North Loop comes shortly after its announced launch of WeWork Labs in Minneapolis. The program targets early-stage startups and provides mentorship and resources, such as marketing advice and guides to building a successful pitch deck.

WeWork isn’t the only co-working operation expanding in the Twin Cities. Just a month ago, Seattle-based women-focused co-working company The Riveter announced plans to open a Twin Cities location this summer.

Representatives from CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield oversaw the lease transaction between United Properties and WeWork. The Nordic is expected to be substantially complete by July.
