Vikings To Give $2M To Commons Park Construction

The city and others involved in the fundraising effort have been prodding the Vikings to up their contribution.

The Vikings are set to contribute about $2 million toward the construction of the Commons park near U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis’ Downtown East neighborhood.

The Star Tribune reports that organization is set to provide the money after prodding from the city and others involved in the park fundraising effort (like future park-managing nonprofit Green Minneapolis) that see the Vikings as benefiting from the nearby green space on game days. Fundraisers need about $22 million—of which $7 million has been pledged so far—to implement the design put out by landscape architects earlier this year.

“We are working with Green Minneapolis about making a significant contribution to the effort,” Vikings executive vice president Lester Bagley told the Star Tribune.

The Vikings previously contributed $1 million toward the $19 million purchase of land for the park.
