UHG Continues Hiring Spree, Adds 1,500 Jobs in TX

UnitedHealth Group on Tuesday announced plans to hire 1,500 employees to staff four Texas locations.

Minnetonka-based health insurance giant UnitedHealth Group, Inc., on Tuesday announced plans to hire 1,500 employees at four Texas locations—a move that comes just one week after the company said it would hire 550 for a call center in Colorado.

Connextions, a UnitedHealth Group subsidiary, will employ 800 of the 1,500 workers at its new “solution center” in Irving, according to a news release. It invested $5.5 million in the 76,400-square-foot facility, which will be ready for occupancy in mid-July, UnitedHealth Group said.

Orlando-based Connextions is responsible for enrolling and retaining new customers, and fielding calls to help them choose the right health care plan and manage their benefits.

“This is an employer that knows Texas and knows Texans,” Texas Governor Rick Perry said in a prepared statement. “They’ve witnessed first-hand what we have to offer, and as a result, they’re continuing to invest their future in the Lone Star State.”

Connextions has already started recruiting in the Dallas metro area for licensed and non-licensed insurance agent positions that will pay $30,000 to $40,000 a year. The company is also seeking trainers, managers, and operational staff for the Irving office.

Of the remaining 700 jobs that UnitedHealth Group is adding in Texas, 330 will be in the Houston area and within its Optum pharmacy benefit management business. UnitedHealthcare—UnitedHealth Group’s health benefits business—accounts for the remaining positions, 250 of which will be in San Antonio and 115 in Harlingen.

The new hires boost UnitedHealth Group’s already large presence within Texas; the company now employs 11,000 within the state.

News of the job growth in Texas comes on the heels of a hiring announcement that UnitedHealth Group made last week, in which it outlined plans to hire 550 employees to staff a call center in Centennial, Colorado.

UnitedHealth Group is Minnesota’s largest public company based on revenue, which totaled $101.9 billion in 2011.
