UHG Aligns Health Services Cos. Under Optum Brand
UnitedHealth Group, Inc., on Monday announced that it will unify its health services businesses under one brand: Optum.
The brand will encompass the company's three health services divisions-OptumHealth; Ingenix, which will now be known as OptumInsight; and Prescription Solutions, which will become OptumRx. These combined businesses serve more than 60 million people, have more than 30,000 employees, and in 2010 reported combined revenues of $25 billion.
“We are aligning these businesses to better match the way we serve clients and the way our clients access health services,” G. Mike Mikan, CEO of Optum, said in a statement. “This step will make it simpler for clients to connect with the broad expertise and innovative capabilities across our businesses . . . Clients will know they can come to Optum for all their health services needs.”
OptumHealth offers services aimed at helping people navigate the health care system, finance their health care needs, and achieve their health and well-being goals. The Golden Valley-based subsidiary will retain its name but adjust its brand positioning to fit the new Optum brand, UnitedHealth said.
Ingenix is an Eden Prairie-based health information and analytics, technology, and consulting business. Prescription Solutions is based in San Diego and specializes in the delivery, clinical management, and affordability of prescription medications and consumer health products.
The three companies will continue to operate under the leadership of their respective CEOs-Dawn Owens (OptumHealth), Andy Slavitt (Ingenix), and Jacqueline Kosecoff (Prescription Solutions). Migration to the new brands will take place over the next 12 months, UnitedHealth said.
Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth is Minnesota's largest public company based on its revenue, which totaled $94.2 billion in 2010. With 11,500 employees in the state, it's also among Minnesota's 15-largest employers.
