Southdale to Add Herberger’s, New Food Court
Southdale Center will welcome a new anchor tenant-Herberger's-and a new food court this winter, the mall's owner, Simon Property Group, Inc., recently announced.
The new Herberger's location-which is slated to open in November-will be located in the 135,000-square-foot space that was previously occupied by Mervyns, which left in 2004.
The new food court will be located on the second level in the JCPenney wing. There will be space for six food tenants and it is scheduled to open by this year's holiday season.
Simon also said that it will reconfigure tenant spaces in the mall to make them flow well and make navigation easier for shoppers.
“The new food court and a better traffic flow, along with a great new anchor store, mark the start of a new era at Southdale,” Laurie VanDalen, Southdale's manager, said in a statement.
VanDalen added that the mall will be making more announcements in upcoming months about new retailers debuting at Southdale.
Southdale opened in 1956 and is currently anchored by Macy's and JCPenney. The mall has more than 130 stores-including Aveda, Coach, H & M, J. Crew, Banana Republic, LOFT, and The Apple Store. It also has a state-of-the-art 16-screen AMC Theatre and is home to several restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chang's China Bistro, and California Pizza Kitchen.
