Report: Hecker, Rowan Marry by Phone

According to media reports, jailed auto mogul Denny Hecker married Christi Rowan last week by phone.

Nearly four months after the government halted the impromptu wedding plans of fallen auto mogul Denny Hecker and his girlfriend Christi Rowan, the two have reportedly made their union official.

According to a report by WCCO, Hecker and Rowan married on February 22 at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove while Hecker called in from the Sherburne County Jail.

The marriage certificate was reportedly filed in Hennepin County on Tuesday and shows that Rowan changed her name to Christi Rowan-Hecker.

According to WCCO, the marriage certificate indicated that the two were married by Lutheran Pastor Peter Geisendorfer-Lindgren-the same pastor who was present late last year when Hecker and Rowan attempted to marry at a time when Hecker was granted the right to temporarily leave jail to meet with his legal counsel.

“We are now husband and wife,” Hecker told WCCO in an interview from jail. “The press can now print and say Christi Rowan, wife, Christi Hecker, wife, instead of Christi Rowan, the girlfriend.”

WCCO consulted legal experts who told the news outlet that there is nothing financially or, even in terms of jail visitation, that the couple can gain, and that the marriage may not even be legal because Minnesota does not recognize marriages by proxy-which occur when one person is not physically present at the ceremony.

Both Hecker and Rowan are currently incarcerated at the Sherburne County Jail. Hecker is there waiting to be transferred to a federal facility to begin serving his 10-year sentence for two fraud charges connected to his attempts to defraud Chrysler Financial Services, LLC, and other lenders of millions of dollars.

Rowan was arrested last week while visiting Hecker at the jail. According to court documents, Rowan violated the terms of her release, which prohibit her from using or transferring any and all estate property.

She was scheduled to be sentenced for two fraud charges on February 25, but given the new allegations, her sentencing date has been postponed. A new date has yet to be scheduled.
