MPS Technical Expands with New Edina Office

Due to shortage of skilled manufacturing workers, MPS Technical-a staffing agency that serves the manufacturing industry-saw record revenue growth in 2011.

MPS Technical, an Oakdale-based staffing and employment agency, announced Monday that it has a new office in Edina.

MPS Technical serves the manufacturing industry with an emphasis on precision machining and medical device manufacturing. In addition to the new Edina office and its Oakdale headquarters, the company has offices in Brooklyn Center and New Richmond, Wisconsin.

“We are very excited about continuing to develop our business in this market and supporting our clients with this new dedicated office,” MPS Technical CEO Bruce Moffat said in a statement.

The company also announced that it experienced a record 30 percent year-over-year revenue increase in 2011 and said it expects a 30 to 40 percent increase in 2012. The company declined to disclose its 2011 sales figures.

MPS Technical Director of Sales Bianca Carr told Twin Cities Business that the growth can be attributed to the agency bringing in several new clients in 2010 and 2011. Carr said that a recent shortage of skilled workers in niche areas such as precision machining has led many employers to turn to staffing agencies like MPS to find employees.

Most positions that MPS Technical recruits for require a college degree with about eight to 10 years of experience and pay $17 to $30 an hour. Carr said that the agency partners with trade organizations, including the Minnesota Precision Manufacturing Association, to find workers for its clients.

“Our market research indicates that many companies are underserved and value MPS Technical providing the human resources and client services they require,” Moffat said in a statement.

MPS Technical employs 27 people, including four that it recently hired for the new Edina office. Carr said the company expects to add 10 to 15 more employees in 2012.
