Minnesota United Taps Former Best Buy Exec as CEO

Shari Ballard, who’s worked at Best Buy for her entire professional career, is the new CEO of Minnesota United Football Club.

Minnesota United Football Club, the state’s professional soccer team, has tapped a longtime Best Buy exec to serve as its next CEO.

On Tuesday, the team announced that Shari Ballard will take the reins as CEO. She takes over for Chris Wright.

Ballard has had a long tenure at Best Buy; in fact, her entire professional career to date has been with the electronics retailer. She first joined the company at a Best Buy store in Michigan in 1993. Ballard went on to become executive VP of human resources. By 2007, she took over responsibility for all Best Buy stores in the United States.

In 2015, Fortune magazine hailed Ballard as one of the “women who saved Best Buy.”

Outside of her career at Best Buy, Ballard serves on the boards of Ecolab, Allina Health, and PetSmart.

“Shari is an extraordinary individual whose personal character, commitment to people and our community, passion for sports, and exceptional experience leading and working with others to grow and strengthen a locally-based, international company and brand is without reproach,” said Minnesota United managing partner Dr. Bill McGuire in a statement.
