Minneapolis Software Firm MentorMate Taps Denny Royal for New VP of Design Role

Royal’s background includes stints with design agency Azul Seven and neuroscience software firm EngagedIn.

Software firm MentorMate has tapped Denny Royal as VP of design. In the newly created role, he’ll lead the development of the company’s new distributed design team.

Royal’s began his tenure at MentorMate in September. (The company is based in Minneapolis but has offices in Bulgaria.)

Royal joins MentorMate from neuroscience-focused software firm EngagedIn, where he held the same role. Before that, he co-founded the Design Thinking Collective and spent eight years with Minneapolis design agency Azul Seven.

“As MentorMate continues to grow, it’s important for us to continue broadening our services for our clients,” said MentorMate CEO Bjorn Stansvik in a news release. “With more than 25 years of experience and leadership in design, Denny will lead the growth of our design teams in both Bulgaria and Minneapolis.”

Adding Royal and his position is the latest growth effort for MentorMate, which was founded in 2001 and last year generated nearly $25 million in revenue.

In July, the company announced its Bulgarian team had been expanded to 500 IT professionals across five offices—with the aim of boosting the company’s “software services and capabilities.”
