Minneapolis Regional Chamber, TwinWest Chamber of Commerce to Merge
The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce and Minneapolis Regional Chamber on Thursday announced plans to merge into a unified entity.
While the chambers discussed consolidation before the pandemic, the current situation has highlighted the benefits of a merger and accelerated the process, said Jonathan Weinhagen, president and CEO of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber, in a news release.
“The Minneapolis Regional Chamber and TwinWest Chamber deliver value in different ways and combining our strengths and building on them is a win for the business community,” he said.
Both chambers’ boards of directors passed joint resolutions Thursday stating their intentions to merge. Weinhagen will be the president and CEO of the combined organization, and Shannon Full, president of the TwinWest Chamber, will take over as the executive vice president.
The hope of the consolidation is to work towards shared goals, such as helping businesses and the workforce through the changing economic environment.
“By leveraging collective resources and relationships, together we can bring forward innovative
programs for our members and solution-based strategies for the region,” Full said in the news release. “We are excited to increase the value that we bring to members and stakeholders at a time when it is most needed.”
It will be the largest chamber in the state, representing more than 2,000 businesses in the greater Twin Cities metro. A subcommittee will work through details of the consolidation, which is expected to take 30 to 60 days.
