Local PR Exec.’s Bollywood Film Makes Mpls. Debut

Stacy Bee, owner of a local public relations firm, was cast for a Bollywood film-and the movie is set to make its Minneapolis debut later this month.

Stacy Bee, owner of Minneapolis-based Esbee Public Relations and Marketing, will soon be hitting the silver screen.

Bee was recruited to star in a Bollywood film when she was expanding her firm's consulting and creative services in India.

In the movie, which is titled Mala Aai Vhhaychy! (I Want to Be a Mother), Bee plays Mary, an American tourist seeking an Indian surrogate mother for her child. It premiered in February in Mumbai, and Bee received an award for “Best First Time Actress” at the Jaipur International Film Festival.

Now, the film is set to make its Minneapolis debut on September 25 and 26, when it will be shown as a collaborative effort between the Twin Cities Film Fest and Pathways to Children that aims to benefit poverty-stricken children in India.

It screens at 5:30 p.m. September 25 at Kerasotes Showplace Icon Theatre in St. Louis Park's West End and at 7 p.m. September 26 at the St. Anthony Main Theatre in Minneapolis-and Bee will be present to speak about her experiences while filming in remote Indian villages.

At the September 26 screening, KSTP host Jason Davis will also introduce a documentary made during his travels with Pathways in India. Proceeds from the evening will directly benefit slum schools run by Pathways to Children in Kolkata, India, according to Esbee.

Bee had no previous acting experience, but she previously told Twin Cities Business that her media training for her public relations business helped her feel comfortable in front of the camera. “I really got into that it was an adventure,” she said. “It was almost like I was living the role.”
