Life Time Fitness Expands to Canada

The company's first club outside the United States is set to open in Ontario, Canada in March 2012.

Life Time Fitness announced Tuesday that it is opening a fitness center in Canada-its first location outside the United States.

The 143,000-square-foot club in Mississauga, Ontario is slated for a March 2012 opening, the Chanhassen-based fitness club operator said.

Life Time Fitness operates about 92 fitness centers in 21 states, including 24 clubs in Minnesota.

Life Time Athletic Mississauga will be accessible to members 24 hours a day, and like most Life Time clubs, will have amenities beyond traditional health club offerings-including group exercise studios, squash and basketball courts, a child center, spa offerings, a cafŽ, and swimming pools.

The club will also offer a health assessment program called MyHealthCheck, through which members can identify health risk factors, get ongoing guidance from wellness coaches, and get a 12-month assessment to measure progress against the plan. Life Time said the program is an effective way for companies to reduce health-care costs while supporting measurable changes to their employees' health.

Life Time Fitness is among the state's 40 largest public companies based on revenue, which totaled $912.8 million in its most recently completed fiscal year.
