JBS USA to Buy J&B’s Pipestone Meat Plant

Colorado food processing company JBS USA plans to lease and then acquire the facility.

Colorado-based JBS USA on Tuesday announced plans to lease and then acquire J&B Group’s meat facility in Pipestone, Minn.

Under the agreement, JBS says it will absorb J&B’s workforce at the facility.

“We believe the facility’s infrastructure and accomplished workforce present a great opportunity to expand our ability to provide high-quality products to both domestic and export markets,” said Bob Krebs, COO, JBS USA Pork.

This month, J&B was slated to close the facility, where it’s produced fresh and frozen ground beef and steaks for more than a decade. The company said it planned to consolidate operations at its headquarters in St. Michael.

In September, J&B said it would facilitate relocation of the Pipestone staff, and that all workers would “have opportunities” in St. Michael. At the time, the company employed about 145 people at the plant. JBS USA said it plans to protect the “more than 130 jobs” at the plant.

Krebs said that JBS plans to invest more into the facility to grow its own business.

“[This will allow] our new team members and the local community to grow with us,” said Krebs.
