Demonstrating English language skills is critical for people applying to colleges and universities. Pearson VUE created the Pearson Test of English-Academic to accurately assess candidates’ English language proficiency. The test differs from previous exams in three ways:
 
• It tests audio comprehension (listening) and audio capture (speaking), in addition to reading comprehension.
 
• The scoring for both the audio and written tests is automated, so results come back quickly.
 
• Pearson provides universities with access to candidate portfolios, which include score results and audio of the candidate speaking.
 
The Pearson test also incorporates a wide variety of question types to reduce any measurement bias and provide richer data.
