Holiday Stationstores Expands With 16 New Locations

More than a dozen stores formerly branded as The Gas Stop will be converted into Holiday Stationstore franchise locations.

Bloomington-based Holiday Companies has struck a deal to expand the company’s presence in South Dakota.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based I-90 Fuel Services, Inc., will convert 16 locations formerly branded as The Gas Stop in South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota into Holiday Stationstore franchise locations.

Holiday previously had just one location in South Dakota, in Sioux Falls.

The Gas Stop is considered the market leader for gas and convenience stores in Sioux Falls, according to Holiday.

With the addition of the new stores, Holiday now has 492 corporately owned and franchised Holiday Stationstore locations in 10 states, the company said in a statement.

In its 2013 survey, industry publication Convenience Store News ranked Holiday as the 25th largest convenience store operator in the United States. The publication tallied 473 locations, including 344 corporately owned stores and 129 franchise locations. Inver Grove Heights-based CHS, Inc., ranked 16th on the list with more than 1,000 locations, primarily under the Cenex name.

Meanwhile, Holiday Companies ranks as one of Minnesota’s 25 largest private companies based on its estimated revenue of $3.9 billion. Forbes ranked Holiday as the 101st largest private company in the country on its 2012 list.

The Gas Stop stores slated to become Holiday Stationstore franchises are located in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Brandon, Mitchell, Mobridge, Pierre, and Volga, South Dakota. They also include Minnesota locations in Luverne and Worthington. The stores will be converted to Holiday Stationstore locations over the next few months.

As part of the deal, Holiday will supply gas and merchandise to three stores that will continue to operate under the Gas Stop name.

A Holiday representative declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal.

“The Gas Stop and Holiday are teaming up to create a powerful market presence which draws on the best of both companies’ capabilities,” Brent Blackey, Holiday's president and chief operating officer, said in a statement. “Gas Stop is an excellent convenience store operator and we believe we can help Gas Stop rise to even greater levels of service, programs, and quality for their customers.”
