General Mills Among Top 10 Companies for Women
Golden Valley-based General Mills, Inc., has been named one of the top 10 companies for female executives.
The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) on Tuesday released an unranked listing of top 50 companies for women. Ten companies, including General Mills, were placed at top of the listing.
General Mills earned high marks for having more female executives in top positions. According to NAFE, women presidents outnumber men-they run four of the seven major retail divisions-and the company's 14-member board includes five women.
Half of those promoted in the United States from directors to officers in 2009 were women, and 26 of the 48 women officers have been with the company for 20 or more years, NAFE said.
General Mills was the only Minnesota company to make NAFE's list of top 50. Other companies among the top 10 included Texas-based IBM, Illinois-based Kraft Foods, and New York-based American Express.
NAFE, founded in 1972, is an association consisting of women professionals and business owners that advocates for women's advancement in business.
General Mills is Minnesota's eighth-largest public company based on revenue, which totaled $14.8 billion during its most recently completed fiscal year.
