FDA Approves Medtronic’s Smartphone-Connected Monitor

The device can wirelessly send information to physicians.

The FDA recently approved a new device from Medtronic that turns a smartphone into a patient’s pacemaker monitor that can send stats to their doctor in real time.

The MyCareLink Smart Monitor is able to connect wireless to a patient’s pacemaker and pass the information along to a smartphone. The information can then be sent securely to Medtronic’s servers, where doctors can log in to monitor.

Medtronic’s stock rose on the news, though has since fallen back to pre-approval levels.
