The Carlson School of Management's 1st Tuesday Speaker Series began in 1992 to provide an opportunity for alumni and friends of the Carlson School to continue their management education. The 1st Tuesday Speaker Series features top executives addressing hot topics in business and leadership.
Held on the first Tuesday of every month at the McNamara Alumni Center, the program attracts alumni and business leaders from throughout the corporate community, and has become an attractive spot for professionals in the metropolitan area to network.

As chairman of the Minneapolis-headquartered, privately held international diversified construction organization, David Mortenson leads a business that specializes in everything from sports stadiums to hospitals, research institutions, and data centers. The Mortenson Company is currently ranked the 18th-largest contractor by Engineering News-Record, with over 5,000 team members in 12 North American offices. Mortenson is the largest design builder of wind and solar energy in North America and has been the largest developer and largest builder in Minnesota over the past three years. Mortenson joined the family business in 1991 after serving as the Combat Information Center Officer on board the USS Hewitt. He undertook the company’s first international design-build project for Seagate Technology in Northern Ireland and was project director during the construction of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. He led the company’s West Coast business for six years before returning to Minneapolis in 2007.
