Buffalo Wild Wings Partners With Lagunitas To Launch Limited-Time Beer

The release comes as the company is trying to woo more customers back into the restaurant.

Buffalo Wild Wings is partnering with one of the most popular craft brewers in the country to roll out a new, limited-time beer in all of its restaurants.

bww-beer-inline.jpgThe Fandom Ale by California-based Lagunitas Brewing Company is described as a hoppy pale wheat ale that Buffalo Wild Wings describes as “the perfect complement to eating wings and watching sports.”

“Everything we do…is for our love of the sports fan,” Todd Kronebusch, vice president of guest innovation at BWW, said in a statement. “We’re upping our game in craft beer innovation by offering this limited release from Lagunitas Brewing Company, which was designed with the sports fan in mind.

The Golden Valley-based restaurant chain has a beer lineup dominated by macro brews. And by some measures, Lagunitas is no different: The Brewers Association stopped considering it a craft brewer after Heineken acquired a 50 percent in it in 2015. But Lagunitas’ beer remains highly rated amongst choosy drinkers, according to Beer Advocate.

The flavor is described as citrusy and a balance between malty and hoppy meant to pair well with spicy wings. The beer isn't exclusive to Buffalo Wild Wings, but a spokeswoman for the company said they were unaware of anyone else who currently carried it.

“We worked to come up with something approachable, interesting and fun for sports fans,” Lagunitas communications director Karen Hamilton said in a statement.

This isn’t BWW’s first limited-time beer offering. The company, which says it serves more draft beer than any other restaurant in the country, partnered with Seattle-based Redhook Brewery to release “Game Changer” is 2013.

The announcement of the new beer comes amid flagging same-store sales for Buffalo Wild Wings. The company has been trying to right the ship by rolling out a number of new products and services, including a “half-price wing Tuesday,” a guarantee to get meals served during lunch delivered to the table within 15 minutes and a delivery service.
