Best Buy Opens Geek Squad Pop-Up Shop At MSP Airport
Best Buy is bringing its Geek Squad “Pop-Up Tech Experience” to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to offer travelers free tech assistance and shopping guidance for last-minute gifts.
The pop-up runs through December 20.
Located in Terminal 1 within the airport’s North Star Mall, the Richfield-based electronics retailer is looking to differentiate itself from competitors during the crucial holiday season.
“We wanted to do this pop-up shop [at MSP airport] as it is adjacent to the Best Buy kiosk and helps drive sales volume,” said Best Buy spokesperson Bianca Jones. In the week leading up to the holidays, Jones said kiosk purchases typically increase 20 to 30 percent. More than 200 Best Buy Express Kiosks are currently stationed around the nation, each stocked with no-contract mobile phones, chargers, headphones, tablets, smartwatches and more.
At the pop-up stand, Geek Squad agents will also be demoing the Star Wars BB-8, Parrot Jumping Sumo Drone and other tech gift options. In the company's third quarter report, Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly touted drones as a likely hot-seller during the holiday season.
Jones believes that by “giving people the chance to experience the [tech demos],” Best Buy will ultimately drive sales as travelers “have the option to purchase either at the kiosk, in-store or online.”
For the weeklong event, the Geek Squad precinct will also offer charging plug-ins for drained devices, as well as tablets and desktop workstations for accessing free airport Wi-Fi.
