A few years ago, Britain’s Kneehigh Theatre wowed Guthrie audiences with its spectacular multimedia adaptation of David Lean’s 1945 film Brief Encounter. This year, the troupe returns with the piece that put it on the international map—a wacky, inventive, sexy and surreal masterpiece based on a 12th-century legend about an illicit love affair between a knight and a queen who ingest a magic love potion. But it’s Kneehigh’s ingenious theatricality that really makes the magic happen.
