App Lets MSP Travelers Get Food Delivered to Gate

Using a free mobile app called B4YouBoard, local travelers can use their smartphones to have food from three restaurants delivered right to their departure gate.

The next time you're sitting at the airport hungry, there's no need to walk up and down the terminal in search of nourishment.

Travelers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport's (MSP's) Lindbergh Terminal (Terminal 1) can now use their smartphones to order food for delivery right at the departure gate.

Through a mobile app called B4YouBoard, airport-goers can place breakfast, lunch, and dinner orders with three restaurants-French Meadow Bakery & CafŽ, Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, and Chili's Too!

B4YouBoard is available for free download at the Apple app store and the Android Market and works with iPhones and all phones that use the Android operating system.

Travelers can order meals between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. According to Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), the restaurants will try to deliver the food within 20 minutes of an order being placed-and refunds will be given to customers whose orders arrive late and those whose planes leave early.

The news organization also reports that there's no surcharge for the deliveries, and tips are optional.

“Everyone seems to do all of their business now from the palm of their hand,” Susan Goyette, spokeswoman for the company that runs the participating restaurants, told MPR. “And as technology grows, I think you'll see people more and more enjoying the ability to order ahead and have the meal brought to them at the gate and then board the plane.”

Bethesda, Maryland-based travel dining and retail company HMSHost Corporation partnered with Arlington, Virginia-based technology company Airside Mobile to create B4YouBoard.

“I am very pleased HMSHost has decided to launch its new B4YouBoard mobile app at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport,” Jeff Hamiel, executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which owns and operates MSP, said in a statement. “One of our goals is to make MSP as efficient, convenient, and customer-friendly as possible, and the B4YouBoard mobile app is one more reason for travelers to make MSP their airport of choice.”

B4YouBoard debuted at JFK International Airport in May, and it will become available at Chicago O'Hare International Airport sometime this month.
