Allina Health Teaming up with Excel Medical to Further Development of Health Care Operations Solutions

Under Excel’s “Lighthouse Program,” the Minneapolis health care nonprofit will work with Florida-based Excel Medical on improving clinical workflow-focused software platforms.

Minneapolis-based nonprofit health care provider Allina Health is collaborating with medical operations data solutions provider Excel Medical to further develop tools for Excel’s healthcare applications from Wisconsin health-tech firm Epic.

Epic’s applications rely on Excel Medical solutions to improve the efficiency of clinical analysis and decision-making. Allina Health will help bring those solutions to a new level, according to a company press release.

“Excel Medical gains a valuable collaboration partner [in] Allina Health,” stated the release. “[Allina’s] deep domain knowledge in clinical workflows, expertise using Epic's EMR, and commitment to innovations offer significant contributions.”

Allina will be Florida-based Excel Medical’s first partner under its new Lighthouse Program— intended to be a network of health systems contributing to the improvement of Epic applications in order to deliver near real-time physiological data.

“Our Lighthouse Program is designed for health systems, like Allina Heath, who place a high value on creating and leveraging innovations focused on improving physician satisfaction and operational efficiencies,” said Lance Burton, president of Excel Medical, in the release.

For Allina Health and future Lighthouse Program participants, a partnership means hands-on access and involvement in Excel Medical’s technological innovation process—which is particularly focused on cardiac monitoring data solutions.

With the idea of promoting growth, scalability, and innovation, Allina began utilizing Excel Medical solutions in 2004 by implementing Epic’s electronic medical records (EMRs). Now, according to the partnership press release, Allina is “recognized as having one of the most comprehensive electronic health record systems in the nation.”

The switch and new partnership, Allina’s chief information officer Jonathan Shoemaker says, “allows us to expeditiously deploy a comprehensive solution that leverages our Epic workflows combined with Excel's continuing cutting-edge innovations.”
