Minnesota is home to 78 of the fastest-growing companies in the nation, according to the annual Inc. 5000 list released Tuesday morning.

Compiled by Inc. magazine, the list ranks privately held American companies by revenue growth over the last three years. To appear on the list, companies must submit an application and pay a fee. This year, four Minnesota companies cracked the top 100 on the list.

Eden Prairie-based exterior contractor company Options Exteriors ranked 24th on the list, which put it in first place among Minnesota companies on the list. According to Inc., Options Exteriors’ revenue grew by a whopping 13,526% between 2018 and 2021.

The 2022 list includes a few returning companies, such as Maple Grove-based studio503, which ranked in 106th place. Roseville-based cloud-based security company YourSix was another, coming in 195th place. St. Louis Park-based fintech company Total Expert, meanwhile, has been on the Inc. 5000 list for five years in a row. “This growth demonstrates our commitment to our customers and to innovating in a way that elevates customer experience through data, insights, and action,” Total Expert founder and CEO Joe Welu said in an email.

In total, there were 43 repeat honorees on the 2022 list.

“A strength runs through America’s small businesses that defies the forces twisting our economy into such weird knots,” wrote Inc. special projects editor Eric Hagerman in an introduction to this year’s report. “In some cases, you’ll find Inc. 5000 founders honing their business models to battle these forces directly.”

All but four of the Minnesota companies on the list are headquartered in the Twin Cities metro. The entrants from Greater Minnesota were: Duluth-based Ad Advance (500th place); Blooming Prairie-based firm The Fibersmith Co. (3,105th); Detroit Lakes-based The Nines (4,240th); and Barnesville-based Stoneridge Software (4,449th).

Last year, 67 Minnesota companies made the list.
