3 Events Expected to Crowd Downtown Mpls on Friday

Minneapolis officials warned citizens that three events will bring about 60,000 people to downtown on Friday evening.

Downtown Minneapolis will be busier than usual on Friday as three events are expected to bring nearly 60,000 people to the area.

Minneapolis officials released a news alert on Thursday to spread the word to those who will be downtown on Friday, saying it is important for people to plan ahead and explore their transportation options.

According to the city, a combined 60,000 people will be downtown for the Minnesota Twins game at Target field (which starts at 7:10 p.m.), the New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys concert at Target Center (which starts at 7:20 p.m.), and the Aquatennial Block Party on Nicollet Mall (which starts at 6 p.m.).

City officials offered four tips for those visiting downtown: Plan ahead, know your parking options, consider mass transit or bicycling, and come early or stay late to avoid delays.

The city said that it is working with the Target Center, the Minnesota Twins, and other partners to mitigate traffic congestion as much as possible.
