Zipnosis Hires Medtronic Alum Scott Brown As VP Of Product Engineering
Virtual health care systems provider Zipnosis has hired Scott Brown, a more than 20-year medtech veteran with experience at companies like Medtronic, to be its new vice president of product and engineering.
The Minneapolis-based company hopes Brown will aid the company’s efforts to scale its telemedicine solutions platform into new markets.
“It is very clear there’s a huge shift in health care taking place, one that is going to disrupt and supplant the unsustainable way care is currently being delivered,” Brown said in a statement.
Telemedicine, or the remote diagnosis and treatment of patients through the use of telecommunications technology, has a global market value in 2015 of $23.2 billion, according to Mordor Intelligence. By 2021, the value of the market is estimated to nearly triple to $66.6 billion.
People in rural areas, particularly elderly individuals who may live an hour or more from the nearest hospital, are poised to benefit from virtual health care platforms made by companies like Zipnosis.
Zipnosis boasts an instant access care model on its platform, which involves an interview process to diagnose a patient and then, if needed, connect them via phone or video for further care. The company claims its system is two to four times faster than other solutions on the market.
“Zipnosis is perfectly positioned to capitalize on [this] disruption, with a virtual care platform that expands access to more patients at a lower cost — while improving the quality and experience,” Brown said.
Brown’s career in health care began in 1996 as a consultant for Accenture, where he worked with government agencies and healthcare companies. He eventually joined Medtronic in 2002 as an engineering manager and later became a senior member of the team. Brown also spent time at Invensure and later founded Ulfberght Software Systems LLC, which developed health care software.
Zipnosis CEO Jon Pearce said on Tuesday he was “pleased” to bring Brown aboard and expects he will “quickly make an impact as he helps Zipnosis’ product and development teams rapidly extend and evolve.”
